“Buildings are not political but are politicised by why and how they are built, regarded and destroyed”
The aim of this video is to convey to the audience the violence against Architecture in Kosovo during, and after the war.
It brings alight coexistence between not just the Architecture but the people behind these buildings. Each building within the video has a voice and speaks of its treatment in society and how the effects of the war have had upon its existence in Kosovo.
Crime against Culture and architecture.
There has been a significant increase in the destruction of historically significant Architecture in Kosovo, becoming one of the biggest problems in Kosovo after the war.
This project explores the different ways of conveying the stories of the forgotten and neglected architecture I chose an old house that was used to house the military in Prishtina.
By taking the existing structure and displaying the Past, the present, and the intended future of this house. By using the existing structure (present) helped construct the past and future.
By unpacking the house you will find different books associated with each part of the building and its history and its significance to the piece and history.
This concertina book outlines the issues within Kosovo’s finance and corruption in unfinished buildings in Kosovo left before and after the war.
The book aims to develop what is being done to improve the situation in the capital, Prishtina. Bringing to life a “Newborn” spot in the city of the lost generation.
During this process, we were given five different shapes in which we had to form letters using the rules of typography. This process enabled me to create a number of different letterforms. It got me to appreciate each letterform. It allowed me to explore how a limited amount of resources can create such unique and intriguing letterforms with the freedom to form the unexpected.
This process gave me an insight into how typefaces are constructed both physically and digitally. Modular typefaces are a really powerful tool in the creation of bespoke type treatments and helped me produce pieces of art.
"A combining form, meaning three, used in the formation of compound words”
The aim of this project was to design our own typeface based on Camberwell. Using the birds-eye view of Camberwell college of the arts three buildings. Taking the elements and shapes I gathered from my drawings I focused on the little details of each building to combine it into one to make my typeface.
Alex Reuben, One-minute group Video Project.
The video explores the most amount of potential from all the objects gathered. Julien Vallée & Nicolas Burrows, DanseDance explored this idea that each day, we are surrounded by seemingly insignificant objects, taking them from one place to the other, or leaving them on a table for weeks. We ignore or forget them, using things only when we need to, making sure they don’t interfere or inhabit our space. But what if they were not so stable and subservient? What if they could swivel, bounce, or even fly.
This video makes objects we disregard in our daily routine and bringing them to life exploring ways of making something ordinary beautiful through action and natural filters.
The brief given was to interpret and rehouse a selected piece of text. The text assigned was On Lying Awake at Night, one of the stories in Stewart Edward White: The Forest.
Building up and layering the abandoned buildings under construction using screenprint.
Due to masses of people fleeing Kosovo to seek refuge aboard, during the war, many buildings under construction by the residents of Kosovo were left abandoned leaving the City of Prishtina in an unfinished state. To this day they stand as empty vessels waiting for a purpose and human interaction.
These are etchings I created using my photographs at the Serbian Orthodox Church that stands abandoned in the heart of Kosovo, Prishtina. I used red and black to create these chilling and ghostly like feel to the piece.
